How a card is priced

The price of a card is the average auction-house sale on the newest day that has one.

Sales
Goldin, Fanatics/PWCC, Heritage, Alt, and Collector Crypt, from the past year. A sale is dropped only when there are at least three of these and it prints under 40% of their median. A high sale stays.
Fresh sale
A sale from the last 14 days is the price, unchanged.
Older sale
Price = last sale × (basket index today ÷ basket index on the sale date).
Baskets
Vintage is 2002 and earlier. Mid-Era is 2003–2016. Ultra Modern is 2017 onward. A card uses the basket for its year.
No auction house
When the past year has no auction-house sale, the price is the newest eBay auction. Accepted best offers are left out. The chart starts on that first sale. Alt.xyz's model is used only when there is no settled auction, and it is not drawn from before the card's year.
Data grade
A: three or more auction-house sales. B: one or two. C: model only.

How an index is calculated

Every index is equal-weighted. It starts at 100 on the first day at least half of its cards have a value. After that:

Index today = index yesterday × the trimmed average of (today's value ÷ yesterday's value).

The average drops the highest 5% and the lowest 5% of those ratios, so one card cannot move the index. A card with no value that day keeps its previous value. A card that has never had a value is left out of that day. The 1W, 1M, 3M, YTD, and 1Y changes are the level now divided by the level at the start of that window.

Which cards are in each index

Pokémon
The 100 highest-valued PSA 10 cards, including trophies that rarely sell.
Vintage, Mid-Era, Ultra Modern
The highest-valued PSA 10 cards in that year range. A card needs six grade-matched sales in the past year.
PSA 10 through PSA 1
One list. PSA 10 is the liquid top 100. Each lower grade prices those same cards from that grade's own auction-house sales.
Generations
The liquid PSA 10 cards of that generation.
Sets
English and Japanese sets from 1999 through this year. Each set is PSA 10 cards with an Alt.xyz value, up to the ten highest in that set. The chart starts in the set's year and uses settled auctions only.

What is left out

TCGplayer prices raw cards, so it is left out. The index is rebuilt about once a week from the auction-house sales above.
